Patient Reviews: Breast Reduction Surgery
Reviews are signal, not proof. They tell you what previous patients felt; they do not predict your specific surgical outcome. Read them for patterns: how patients describe the surgeon's communication style, the consultation experience, the surgical recovery, and whether the result held at 6+ months. Then verify the credentials independently — board certifications (FACS, FEBOPRAS) and peer-reviewed publication record on PubMed.
Selected international patient experiences
The reviews below are paraphrased from longer write-ups submitted by international breast reduction patients on Google, Trustpilot, and direct emails. Patient initials and country of residence shown; full names and case-specific details kept confidential. Reviews are presented in patients' own words; minor edits for length and clarity only.
"I had been on the NHS waiting list for over two years for a breast reduction. The pain in my back and shoulders had become unbearable, and exercising was almost impossible. I decided to look at private options abroad and reached out to Dr. Erdal after researching extensively. The WhatsApp consultation was direct and clinical — no sales pitch. He explained the Wise pattern technique he would use and was honest about scar trade-offs. Surgery was four months ago and the relief is genuinely life-changing. I'm running again. The scars are fading well."
"I was a 34G and had struggled with the size since adolescence. Finding a surgeon who took my situation seriously was difficult. Dr. Erdal's response was professional and respectful from the first message. The clinic team arranged everything — airport transfer, hotel, transport between hotel and clinic. The hospital was JCI-accredited and the standard of care was excellent. Six months on, I'm wearing fitted clothes for the first time in my adult life and the back pain is gone."
"After two children and breastfeeding, my breasts had become a burden — physical and emotional. I'm 41 and was nervous about anaesthesia and recovery. Dr. Erdal walked me through every concern, including the pre-operative blood work and what to expect from anaesthesia. The vertical scar technique he used left only a lollipop scar (no horizontal scar) which I really appreciate. Three months out, the result is exactly what I hoped for."
"The discretion and the directness made the difference for me. From the consultation through to the post-operative care, I was treated as a private patient throughout. Dr. Erdal personally checked on me on the morning after surgery and again before discharge. The hotel accommodation was comfortable for the recovery week. Five months post-surgery and the scars are healing into the inframammary fold beautifully — almost invisible from the front when standing."
"I researched breast reduction surgeons in Australia, the UK, and Turkey for over a year. Cost was a factor but not the deciding factor — the deciding factor was the depth of clinical detail Dr. Erdal provided in his initial assessment. He addressed my specific concerns about preserving nipple sensation and gave realistic expectations rather than overpromising. Twelve weeks post-surgery and sensation is well preserved. I'd make the same decision again without hesitation."
"Travelled from California specifically for Dr. Erdal. Even with international flights and a week-long stay in Istanbul, the total cost was a fraction of what I was quoted at home. More importantly, Dr. Erdal does breast reduction every single week — the surgeon I would have seen at home does maybe a few per month. Volume genuinely matters in surgery. My result is excellent and I had no complications."
"I have a hereditary tendency toward keloid scarring, which made me hesitant about any surgery. Dr. Erdal addressed this specifically — discussed scar care protocol, recommended silicone gel for 6 months, and was realistic that my scars might be slightly thicker than average regardless. They have been, but they are still much improved on what I feared. The size reduction has transformed my daily comfort."
"I'm 56 and had been told by surgeons in the Netherlands that I was too old for breast reduction. Dr. Erdal evaluated me thoroughly — bloodwork, anaesthesia clearance, full discussion of risks at my age — and proceeded only because the assessment was favourable. The surgery was uneventful, recovery was smooth, and I have years of physical comfort ahead of me that I had given up on. Excellent surgeon and team."
How to interpret any plastic surgery review — including these
Surgery is intensely personal. The same surgeon may produce a 5-star result for one patient and a less satisfying result for another, due to factors entirely outside the surgeon's control: skin healing, scar genetics, weight stability post-op, compliance with compression bra, and individual aesthetic preferences. So how should you read reviews?
- Read for patterns, not single experiences. One glowing review proves little. Twenty consistent reviews describing the same characteristics start to mean something.
- Look for specific clinical detail. Reviews that mention specific reduction weight, technique used, recovery timeline, and 6+ month outcome are more useful than generic "amazing experience" reviews.
- Be sceptical of zero-negative profiles. Surgeons with hundreds of cases and zero negative or mixed reviews anywhere should be questioned.
- Cross-reference platforms. Google, Trustpilot, RealSelf, Doctify — patterns should be consistent across multiple platforms.
- Verify credentials independently. Board certifications can be verified directly with the issuing body. PubMed lists peer-reviewed publications.
Verifying Dr. Erdal's credentials: FACS Fellowship is verifiable at the American College of Surgeons (facs.org). FEBOPRAS Fellowship is verifiable at the European Board of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery. Peer-reviewed publications are searchable on PubMed under "Erdal AI".
Want to share your own experience?
Patients who would like to share their experience after recovery are invited to leave a Google review (search "Dr. Ayhan Işık Erdal" on Google Maps), or to submit a private testimonial that may be quoted on this page with explicit consent and full anonymisation. We do not solicit reviews mid-recovery; the natural time is at 6+ months when the result is genuinely final.
